MCC Golfers in second after two rounds in Texas tourney

DALLAS, Texas – The McCook Community College golf team started the second half of the season Monday at the 4-HIM Classic at Luna Vista and are in second place after 36 rounds of golf.

MCC trails the hosts, Central Christian College (Texas) by two shots. Jacksonville College (Texas) is in third place seven shots back of MCC, followed by Ottawa University (Kan.), Lyon College (Ark.) and Coffeyville Community College (Kan.).

After shooting a first round 315, MCC was five shots out of the lead before the second round.

"On the first 18 holes today, we looked like a team with a lot of rust which I expected but it took a little too long to shake it off," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop. "We gave away a lot of shots and just didn't seem comfortable on very many shots."

MCC came back to post the low round of the day with a 302 in the second round and trail the host school heading into the third round Tuesday.

"The second 18 was better but some of the frustrations from earlier were still there," said Loop.

Sophomore Cayden Wynne (Lincoln) and freshman Cade Cryer (Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) posted the low MCC scores after two rounds at 152. They are tied for sixth place in the individual honors. Wynne had rounds of 79 and 73, Cryer had rounds of 77 and 75.

Ethan Gough (sophomore, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) is in 11th place, three shots back of his teammates and had rounds of 78 and 77. Brayden Dahl (sophomore, Outer West Durban, South Africa) finished the day at 14 over with scores of 81 and 77.

Sophomore Jordan Bingham (South Jordan, Utah) posted rounds of 81 and 80, Spencer Wishon (sophomore, Oberlin, Kan.) shot 79 and 87. Payton Craw (sophomore, McCook) came back from a first-round 88 to shoot 84 in the second round.

"To win tomorrow we'll need to button up the mistakes and execution," Loop said. "I think this team is thankful they have a chance to win still and will relish the opportunity."

Freshmen Hunter Hansen (McCook) and Ashton Koetter (Seward) shot 180 and 191 for the day.
