MCC Golfers shoot nine-under to win All-Nebraska JUCO Challenge

The McCook Community College golf team had four of the top six scores Tuesday and won the All-Nebraska Junior College Challenge at Heritage Hills Golf Course. MCC shot a team-best nine-under par to finish 10 shots ahead of second-place Southeast Community College (Beatrice).

"Things are definitely trending in the right direction," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop. "That 279 was a great score – nine-under on a very cold and breezy day and on a tough course."

Northeast Community College (Norfolk) finished third at 312 and Central Community College (Columbus) was fourth at 340.

"It's nice to have a team of players where you never know who's going to shoot the lowest, today was Brayden Dahl," said Loop.

The sophomore from Outer West Durban, South Africa shot a five-under 67 to claim the individual championship, two shots better than Harrison Foxall of SCC.

MCC freshman Cade Cryer (Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) and sophomore Cayden Wynne (Lincoln Southwest HS) tied for third place with two-under par 70. MCC sophomore Ethan Gough (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) finished in a fifth-place tie with Luke Strako of Southeast with even rounds of 72.

Spencer Wishon (sophomore, Oberlin, Kan.) shot a 77, Jordan Bingham (sophomore, South Jordan, Utah) was one shot back at 78 and sophomore Payton Craw (McCook) shot an 80. Freshman Hunter Hansen (McCook) had an 88 and freshman Ashton Koetter (Seward) had a 98. "There is still work to be done but we'll enjoy this one for a little while," said Loop.

MCC will resume the Region IX season March 23-24 at the Lamar Community College Tournament, followed each week with tournaments in La Junta Colo., Sterling, Colo., McCook, Torrington, Wyo., and Riverton, Wyo. on April 27-28.
