MCC holds commanding lead after first round at Heritage Hills

The McCook Community College golf team shot a five-under par 283 Thursday at its home golf course and leads Eastern Wyoming by 25 shots and Northeastern Junior College by 33 shots.

"The first day of our home tournament was a great start for us and gives us a commanding lead going into Day 2," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop. "The guys are swinging it very well right now and having fun doing it."

Individually, MCC finished the day with seven of the nine top scores, and holds down the top four spots.

Sophomore Ethan Gough (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) shot a six-under 66 to lead freshman teammate Cade Cryer (freshman, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) by four shots. Sophomore Cayden Wynne (Lincoln) is third with a one-over par 73 and sophomore Brayden Dahl (Outer West Durban, South Africa) is tied for fourth place. He shot a 74.

Sophomore Spencer Wishon (Oberlin, Kan.) shot a 75, good for sixth place. Sophomore Jordan Bingham (South Jordan, Utah) was at five-over for the day and is tied for eighth place with teammate Payton Craw (sophomore, McCook), who was competing as an individual.

Also competing individually were freshman Hunter Hanson, McCook, who shot an 86 and freshman Ashton Koetter, Seward, who had a 93.

"Tomorrow the plan is to keep the foot down on the pedal and hopefully drop some putts," Loop said.

The second round at Heritage Hills Golf Course begins Friday at 9 a.m.
