MCC golfers win home tournament by 46 shots for sixth straight tournament win

Despite the wind at Heritage Hills Golf Course Friday, the McCook Community College golf team pulled away from the field and won its two-day home tournament by 46 shots. MCC was the only team with rounds below 300 both days. This is MCC's sixth tournament of the calendar year and sixth time they've finished in first place (once in a tie).

"This was such a tough day to play golf in, but these guys did great in the wind," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop

After shooting a five-under par 283 opening round Thursday, MCC was six-over par Friday to finish the day at 294 and a two-day total of 577. Individually MCC's golfers took the top five places

"This was a statement win and most likely a record margin of victory for the program," Loop said.

Sophomore Ethan Gough (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) won the individual title with an eight-under 136. He was the only golfer in the field to break par Friday with a two-under on the day.

Sophomore Cayden Wynne (Lincoln) and freshman Cade Cryer (freshman, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) finished in a tie for second place with three-over par 147s. Wynne was one-over Thursday and two-over Friday. Cryer was two-under Thursday and five over Friday.

Sophomore Brayden Dahl (Outer West Durban, South Africa) had rounds of 74 and 75 to finish in fourth place and sophomore Spencer Wishon (Oberlin, Kan.) had back-to-back rounds of 75 to finish a shot back in fifth place.

Sophomore Jordan Bingham (South Jordan, Utah) finished in a tie for 10th place with rounds of 77 and 81 to finish 14-over for the tournament.

Competing as individuals Payton Craw (sophomore, McCook) finished in a tie for 13th place with rounds of 77 and 85. Freshman Hunter Hanson, McCook, finished at 171 and freshman Ashton Koetter, Seward, at 196

"These guys have put their names on a lot of records this year, this one will be tough to beat, really proud of all of them."

MCC will travel to Sterling, Colo. April 13-14 for the Northeastern Junior College meet.
