MCC golfers hold slim lead over Eastern Wyoming after first day of NJC meet

STERLING, Colo. – Despite an off day with the putters, the McCook Community College golf team is in first place after the first round of the Northeastern Junior College tournament.

MCC shot a two-over 286 and leads Eastern Wyoming by two shots and the host team Plainsmen by eight shots.

"It was a great day for golf, we swung it well, but the putters were cold," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop. "Our biggest weakness all season has been missing putts inside five feet and it continued today. We need to fix the putters to maintain the confidence."

George Cordall of Eastern Wyoming leads the field shooting a four-under 67 on the day. MCC's Ethan Gough (sophomore, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) is second, shooting a two-under 69. Sophomores Brayden Dahl (Outer West Durban, South Africa) and Cayden Wynne (Lincoln) are tied for fourth place shooting one-over 72s on the day.

Spencer Wishon (sophomore, Oberlin, Kan.) is in seventh place posting a two-over 73. Cade Cryer (freshman, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) had a 75 and Jordan Bingham (sophomore, South Jordan, Utah) shot a 77.

Competing as individuals, sophomore Payton Craw (McCook) is in a tie for eighth place posting a three-over 74. Freshman Hunter Hanson (McCook) had a 78 and freshman Ashton Koetter (Seward) had a 94.

The two-day tournament concludes Thursday.
