Ethan Gough named All-American, three teammates tabbed All-District

NEWTON, Kan. – McCook Community College sophomore Ethan Gough, (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I PING All-America and All-District Team. The announcement came at the National Tournament Awards Banquet as selected by members of the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Gough was one of five golfers in the nation named to the first team, joining Dominic Clemons of Hutchinson, Matthis Lefèvre of New Mexico Junior College, Alex Lindstrom of Hutchinson, and Trey Rouse of Jefferson State.

In addition, Gough and three teammates were selected to the All-West District team. That team includes, sophomore Brayden Dahl (Outer West Durban, South Africa), sophomore Cayden Wynne (Lincoln) and freshman Cade Cryer (Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa).

Gough led Region IX with 93 standings points this season and named All Region IX. He finished in fourth place in the first Region IX meet of the spring (his lowest finish of the year), he captured three-straight tournament wins: March 31 at the OJC meet in La Junta, Colo.; April 7 at the MCC meet; and April 13 at the NJC meet. He finished the season at Torrington, Wyo, in a tie for second place and earned at least five points in every one of the 10 Region IX tournaments. Gough had a scoring average of 69.7 on the season with his low score coming at the Otero meet March 30 when he posted a 64 on the final round for the second of his three-straight spring wins.

Cryer was also an all-Region IX selection, finishing third in player standings. He picked up two tournament wins on the season and finished in second place four times. He had a 72.4 scoring average posting 67s twice during the fall – Sept. 23 at Sterling, Colo. and Oct.6 at Lamar.

Wynne, was sixth in the Region IX standings, was named to the All-Region IX second team with a 73.9 scoring average. He finished second in the NJC tournament in the fall and the home course spring tournament at Heritage Hills April 7. His low scores on the year both came at Sterling, Colo. shooting a 67 in the fall tournament Sept. 22 and a 68 in the spring meet April 13.

After missing the first tournament of the year in McCook, Dahl finished in fifth place in the standings and was named All-Region IX second team with a 72.6 scoring average. He brought home 16 standings points in the fall season and 26 in the spring, and scored in nine of the 10 tournaments in which he played. He had four rounds in the 60s with the low scores of 68 coming March 30 at the Otero meet and April 26 in the final meet of the year at Torrington, Wyo.

The MCC team competes in the JUCO National Tournament starting today in Newton, Kan.
