MCC golfers finish No. 16 at NJCAA National Tournament

NEWTON, Kan. – The McCook Community College golf team shot a 305 Friday to finish up the NJCAA National Tournament Friday in 16th place at the Sand Creek Golf Course.

"A 16th place finish wasn't what we wanted when we started, but after the first round it was a great finish and another MCC record for this team," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop.

With the best showing ever in the national tournament, MCC started the four-day tournament with a season worst 308 – 20 shots over par and in 24th place – then followed that up with rounds of 288, 291 and the 305 today.

"We played the final three rounds as the eighth best team and today's round of 305 today was a good round in the nasty weather we had to play in," said Loop.

Indian Hills Community College ran away with the team championship in Friday's round finishing at 25-under par after shooting a final round 285. Odessa College finished second at 14 under, Midland Community College finished in third place, 10-under par, and New Mexico Junior College was the only other school shooting below par and finished fourth at six-under.

"I'm really proud of the attitude these guys had today as it wasn't pleasant and that is why this group is so special.," said MCC Coach Tyler Loop.
