MCC volleyball wins twice at Southeast CC triangular

BEATRICE – The McCook Community College volleyball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday at the Southeast Community College triangular. MCC downed Southeast 3-0 in Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference action then downed the Ottawa (Kan.) JV's 3-0.

"Today was a good day, we were able to try a few different players and rotations," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. "We had good energy and worked on playing true to our potential."

The win lifts MCC to 10-5 on the season and 2-0 to lead the NCCAC standings.

After starting the season 2-2 Southeast has lost 10 straight matches and fall to 2-12.

MCC will return home Wednesday to take on Central Community College at 6 p.m. The Raiders will come into the match 6-12 and this will be their first NCCAC game of the season.

MATCH 1 – McCook CC 3, Southeast CC 1: MCC opened the day with a 25-19, 25-9, 25-19 sweep over the Storm.

Victoria Thomas (sophomore, Houston, Texas) led MCC at the net with 15 kills, one assist block, three aces and nine digs. Freshman Jordan Duzenack, (Loveland, Colo.) had 13 kills.

Fernanda Merancio (freshman, Lamar, Colo.) had seven kills and one assist block. Freshman Glorya Carr (Hugo, Colo.) added four kills. Freshman Gracen Tuttle (Ogallala) had two kills and three assist blocks.

Jessie Jerome (freshman, Rawlins, Wyo.) led the MCC passing attack with 33 assists to go along with six kills, seven digs, two aces and a solo block.

McKenna Crews (sophomore, Loveland, Colo.) led MCC with 14 digs. Freshman Greta Bolognini (Bergamo Italy) added 11 digs and an ace. Gabby Caskey (freshman, Ogallala) was credited with eight digs.

 

MATCH 2– McCook CC 3, Ottawa JV's 0: MCC won the first set 26-24 and went on to claim the second one 25-21, and wrapped up the day with a 25-19 win.

Victoria Thomas led MCC with 12 kills and added four digs and an assist block. Sophomore Makayla Brown (Colorado Springs) had eight kills with three digs and an assist block. Gabby Caskey added six kills, one assist block, 10 digs and three aces.

Jisell Chumacero (sophomore, Eaton, Colo.) had four assist blocks, three kills and two aces. Gracen Tuttle had four kills and three assist blocks.

Anna Williams, (freshman, Cheyenne, Wyo.) had three kills and one assist block. Jordan Duznack had three kills and two assist blocks.

Jessie Jerome had 15 assists, five digs, one kill and one assist block. Freshman Alexis Pontine, Ignacio, Colo.) chipped in 13 assists.

Greta Bolognini led MCC in the match with 13 digs and aced two serves. McKenna Crews had eight digs.
