MCC golfers win first-ever district title

Earlier this week the National Junior College Athletic Association compiled spring scoring statistics for golf and the McCook Community College golf team has won its first ever district championship with the lowest scores of any school in Region IX and Region 1.

MCC is just one of four schools in the nation to claim a district title this year, winning the West Distict and joining Dodge City (Central District), Eastern Florida State (Southeast District), Midland, Texas (South Central District). There are 46 schools competing in Division 1 golf.

MCC is also ranked No. 13 in this week's NJCAA D1 Men's Golf Rankings. That's the highest ever for the school.

It is the fifth time in the past six years, MCC has qualified for the national tournament with the only blemish in that mark is when the tournament was canceled by the coronavirus in 2020.

The MCC golfers won the Region IX championship for the third time in school history and have won their last eight tournaments. Coach Tyler Loop was named the Region IX Coach of the Year. Sophomore Ethan Gough and freshman Cade Cryer were named to the Region IX first team, while sophomores Brayden Dahl and Cayden Wynne were named to the second team.

MCC will compete in the NJCAA National Tournament May 16-19 at the Sand Creek Golf Course at Newton, Kan.
